WISH LIST

Located in sunny southwest Florida, Bat World Everglades has the unique opportunity to work with bats all year long.  Unlike bats found in different areas of the country that migrate and/or hibernate, most bats are residents all year long in this area of Florida.  Nineteen different species have been documented in Florida but only 13 bat species that are considered to be resident.  The most common bats encountered in southwest Florida are the evening bat and Brazilian free-tailed bat.   Florida is unique as well because pup season starts earlier than in most parts of the United States.  Pup season can start as early as April.  Bat World Everglades provides statewide rescue throughout the year in Florida, and rescues up to 200 bats annually.

In addition to being a rescue center, Bat World Everglade's dual focus is public education. Each year, numerous outreach programs are given to schools, nature centers, libraries and other groups interested in learning about the benefits of bats. Bat World Everglades offers five different entertaining, yet educational, programs for all age groups throughout the state of Florida as well as other states. The public is able to meet bats from around the world, including tropical fruit bats.  Bat World Everglades is very proud to be one of three locations in the United States that has Malayan Flying Foxes, the world's largest kind of bat, offered in educational outreach programs.  Fees collected from these educational programs help to provide food and medical attention for the center's non-releasable bats as well as the bats receiving rehabilitation.
