Bat World Long Island Ed

Name:
Sarah Kennedy

Bat World Long Island Education is located in the Suffolk County area of Long Island in New York. Several bat species hunt in this state, including the hoary bat, red bat, silver-haired bat, Indiana bat, northern bat, small-footed bat, eastern pipistrelle, little brown bat and big brown bat. All of them consume an incredible amount of insects in a single night, and all of them are vital to our ecosystem as well as the well-being of the humans who live here. They also directly effect our economy by acting as a free and natural pest control.

Our purpose is to provide awareness of these necessary and amazing creatures through educational programs offered to local schools and other education-oriented assemblies. Our hope is to provide fun and interactive discussions in a learning environment where the myths and misinformation may not only be dispelled for our children but for the teachers of our children who will go on to educate forward about bats.

Please note that we are an education-only center and cannot perform bat rescue at this time. See the following link for listed individuals who might possibly better assist you: Rescue Map Using our contact info for rescue purposes of any kind may result in the bat's continued suffering and possibly death, as Island Ed is not a rehabilitation-equipped facility, and the more calls you have to make, the longer the bat waits. Please see batworld.org's list of available rehabbers for the nearest one near you.

What do bats have to offer humans? Quite a great deal, and the best time to introduce people to how great these animals are is when they are young and curious of the world and creatures around them! We are experienced in public speaking and have educated an age range of elementary-to-middle school children. The discussions are fun and engaging and involve visual aids, hands-on games, and Q&A. Topics such as Myth & Fact, Bats of the World, Bat Terms, Unique Bat Anatomy, Local Bats, How Bats Benefit Us, and What is Bat Rehab? are discussed and can be designed down for a 30 minute class. For further information about having us visit your local school or social program to discuss bats of the world and New York, as well as suggested donations, please contact us via email at the below address. Allow for up to one week for your request to be addressed.

Again, this email address is not for rescue purposes, as Island Ed cannot do bat rescue. Contact an actual rehabilitator, do the right thing, and don't force the bat in your temporary care to wait for help. See the Rescue Map
