Dear Kelly Carnes and 4th Grade Class,
We were very excited to meet Flat Stanley! I hope he enjoyed
his visit to Bat World Sanctuary headquarters in Mineral
Wells, TX.
Mineral Wells is called Mineral Wells because there are a lot
of minerals in the water. Back in the 1800’s, settlers
believed the water contained curative powers so they dug lots
and lots of wells all over the town. Mineral Wells is about
50 miles west of Fort Worth. Our town has lots of old tall
buildings so lots and lots of bats live here. We like to roost
in the loose bricks at the top of the buildings. Our town has
a state park with lots of water and people who come to boat
and hike. We like to drink from the big lake at the state
park—it’s wide enough to allow us to skim the surface with our
mouths open as we fly over! Another place people like to visit
here is called
Clark’s
Gardens. I’ve sent a flyer about the gardens with Mr.
Stanley. There is a small map on the back that shows the
location of Mineral Wells.
I had the honor of
showing Mr. Stanley all around our miniature bat cave at Bat
World Sanctuary. I also introduced him to some of the
non-releasable bats I live with. Later, we had our
photograph taken together so I have sent it to you! I have
to say this is not the best picture of me; I had bugs
in my teeth so I didn't want to smile.
Thank you for sending Flat Stanley to us, and for sponsoring
me in Bat World’s
Adopt-a-Bat program!
Love and bat smooches
