D
& L TRADING KILLS HELPLESS BATS |
|
D & L
Trading
is selling numerous fruit bat specimens in
frames. The company states the bats are
Cynopterus brachyotis that are "Legally Harvested",
meaning they are taken from the wild specifically to be sold as
hideous specimens.

This
delicate bat is also known as the
Short-nosed fruit bat. It is an important pollinator and seed dispenser,
and has a status of vulnerable.
These bats construct a
tent out of the leaves of large plants. By chewing the veins, the leaves collapse
to form
roosts that cover the bats from sunlight and rain but
unfortunately make them easy targets for wildlife poachers who
catch these bats for D & L |
|
|
These
beautiful, gentle bats are snatched from
the wild and needlessly killed to create horrible red-eyed
specimens like the one pictured here.
Shrunken,
dried and ugly, no trace remains
of their gentle beauty.
The
buying and selling of these specimens encourages their continual
killing by wildlife poachers. Please write a letter
(example below) to D & L and voice your opinion. Please
also share this page with other individuals animal rights
organizations. |

D & L's add states:
Beautiful Fruit Bat (Cynopterus brachyotis)! Mounted in the much
sought after double glass frame which measures 16" x 8" x 2" wide.
Taxidermy is done so there is no odor. Very good shape! You are
buying the exact specimen shown (no substitutions, very important),
pictures taken at multiple angles so there is no doubt what you are
getting. Many animals in similar mounts can vary widely in both
quality and size from specimen to specimen. Check my ebay store to
see if I have others that may suit you better. |

Dear Chairman Omidyar and President Whitman:
Bat specimens from D & L Trading are being sold on eBay. By
allowing this practice you are encouraging the harvesting of
bats and the decline of wild bat populations.
Fruit and nectar-eating bats are responsible for hundreds of
economically important products including foods, drinks,
medicines, timber, fibers, dyes and fuel. Wild varieties of
many of the world’s most economically valuable crop plants,
such as bananas, rely on bats for survival. Insect eating bat
species are natural enemies of night-flying pests that damage
crops, reducing the need for chemical pesticides.
eBay is in a position to help conserve bats worldwide. Please
do the right thing and protect these valuable allies by
prohibiting the sale of bats on eBay.
Signed,
(insert your information here)

Dear D & L Trading,
Your name has been listed
on the Wall of Shame at www.batworld.org
because you are selling real bat specimens in frames. Cynopterus
brachyotis is an important pollinator and seed dispenser,
and has a status of vulnerable.
Shame on you for
causing the deaths of these beautiful animals so you can sell their
bodies, fashioned in hideous form, to the unsuspecting public.
I intend to
let others know that D & L Trading contributes to the
decline of a vulnerable species by selling animals that were killed
to make a profit for your company. I will also encourage people to NOT to buy any of your
products until D & L Trading has withdrawn no longer sells real bat
specimens of any kind.
