| Morbid
Tendencies is selling two types of dead bat specimens; a
bat in a jar and bat skull earrings. When owner Windy Lewis was
contacted about where she purchased the bats to make the specimens
pictured below, she jokingly replied "You probably mean the dead bats and mousies? Biological supply
companies!" (For comments on killing animals herself please
visit her FAQ
page.) |
| |
| It
is no joke, however, when animals are purchased from these
companies. Bats in particular roost in caves in large numbers,
making them easy targets for unscrupulous wildlife dealers who
harvest them by the hundreds while they very much alive.
These bats are then needlessly killed to become hideous specimens
such as those pictured below. When bats are purchased from these
wildlife dealers it only increases the trade of an animal that is
vastly decreasing in numbers. |

The
Morbid
Tendencies website states: "Beautifully preserved little beasties living suspended in jars...
Bats are now back in stock, thank god, so order away....!
Bat in Jar: $42 includes delivery anywhere in the US. Very
delicate webbed wings and darling crumpled faces. You would punch
a nun to get them! You’d suck the blood out of a wounded puppy.
Sterling,
Emerald, and Natural Bone Bat Skull Earring with Ankh (Single):
$35.00. Real bat skull wired with solid sterling silver, with an
emerald cabochon plus an ankh dangly bit. For those of us with
green eyes (or who wear green).

Dear
Windy Lewis,
Your
name has been listed on the Wall of Shame at www.batworld.org
because you are selling real bat specimens. It
is not a joking matter when animals are purchased from
biological supply companies. Bats in particular roost in caves
in large numbers, making them easy targets for unscrupulous
wildlife dealers who harvest them by the hundreds while they
very much alive. When bats are purchased from these wildlife
dealers it only increases the trade. By
buying and selling these specimens, you are not only causing
the deaths of individual animals, you are contributing to the
vast decline in wild populations.
I intend to
let others know that Morbid Tendencies contributes to the
decline of bat populations by selling these animals. I will
also encourage people to NOT to buy any of your products until
you have withdrawn your ads you no longer sell real bat
specimens of any kind.
